A Historic Countryside Venue Two Miles from Hereford
Lyde Court is a 17th-century barn venue set in a quiet private valley on the edge of Hereford, shaped by centuries of land, farming, gathering and stewardship.
Shaped by Land, People and Purpose
Nestled in a quiet valley just two miles from Hereford city centre, Lyde Court has been a place of gathering and stewardship for centuries.
The site began life in the medieval period as a moated manor, known historically as Lyde Sacy or Lyde Saucy. Over time, it developed into a substantial court house and working estate, with buildings, farmland and gardens managed as one rural landscape.
Today, Lyde Court continues that long tradition as a welcoming countryside place for weddings, private hire, accommodation, café dining, live music, markets and community events.

“Lyde Court has been a place of gathering and stewardship since medieval times.”
Its history has been shaped by land, people and purpose, from moated manor and working estate to the countryside venue it is today.
From Moated Manor to Working Estate
The name Lyde is believed to originate from a Saxon word linked to a running stream. In the medieval period, several Lyde manors existed in the area, including Lyde Sacy, Lyde Arundel, Lyde Prior and Lyde Court.
Lyde Sacy takes its name from the de Sacy family, a Norman family associated with the manor in the 13th century. Historical references connect Emery de Sacy, also recorded as Aimeric de Sacy, with landholding in Herefordshire during this period.
The remains of the moat can still be traced today. Moated sites were typically connected with high-status homes, combining domestic life with land management, farming and local responsibility.
Original Stone, Elm Beams and Arrow-Slit Windows
By the 17th century, Lyde Court had developed into a substantial court house and working estate. Much of the stonework, barns and timber structure that shape the site today date from this period and have changed remarkably little over the last four hundred years.
The iconic L-shaped stone barns are central to the venue. They have been preserved with minimal modern renovation, retaining their rustic authenticity, original stone, chamfered elm beams and arrow-slit windows.
Candlelight, timber, stone and the surrounding countryside work together to give Lyde Court its distinctive atmosphere: historic, relaxed and full of character.
