Celebrating Your Anniversary Milestone
Anniversary milestones have their own character. The barn accommodates all naturally — the L-shaped layout, the mezzanine levels and the courtyard mean the space scales well whether you are hosting thirty people or two hundred.
Many Silver wedding celebrations at Lyde Court take the form of an evening dinner and dancing — something that recreates the atmosphere of the original wedding day without being a formal wedding. The barn suits this perfectly: candlelit, exclusive, with a dancefloor and a bar that stays open until 2am.
Not every anniversary that matters is a round number or a named milestone. We are happy to host celebrations for any year of marriage that a couple chooses to mark — an anniversary of a first meeting, a first date, or a year that simply meant a great deal. The barn is yours for the day; what you celebrate in it is entirely up to you.
A multi-generational gathering where the accommodation option comes into its own. Guests who have travelled to be there can stay on site, the children can run in the grounds, and the adults can linger over dinner without anyone watching the clock.
At Lyde Court, the 17th-century barn on the Duchy of Cornwall Estate provides that sense of occasion without formality or fuss. Golden wedding celebrations here are typically a sit-down dinner for the extended family — often with a mix of generations from grandchildren to elderly relatives. The barn’s natural layout accommodates this well: a stage end for speeches and entertainment, a quieter mezzanine for those who need a break from the noise, and the courtyard for evening air.
Celebrations at this milestone tend to be more intimate: the couple at the centre, their closest family, perhaps two or three tables of the people who matter most. The barn does intimate gatherings well — we have hosted celebrations for as few as twelve guests and the space never feels empty. If a full sit-down dinner feels too formal, an afternoon tea in the candlelit barn followed by a private supper is a gentle and memorable alternative.
Vow Renewals
An anniversary celebration at Lyde Court does not have to be a party. Some couples use the occasion to renew their vows — a private ceremony in the barn or the gardens, followed by a dinner for family and close friends. We are not licensed to perform legal ceremonies for vow renewals (only for civil weddings), but an independent celebrant can lead a vow renewal service in any of our ceremony spaces. Our wedding coordinator team can advise on celebrants they have worked with previously.
The Setting
The Great Barn at Lyde Court is L-shaped across two floors with mezzanine areas at either end, a dedicated stage and dancefloor, and a quieter seating area away from the music. Stone walls, original elm beams, vaulted ceilings and arrow-slit windows provide a backdrop that no amount of hired decoration can replicate. In the evenings, the barn is lit by hundreds of candles — included in every hire — and fairy lights throughout.
Outside, the Front Lawn offers panoramic views across to Dinmore Hill and the Malvern Hills — a backdrop for photographs that tends to feature prominently in every anniversary review we receive. The walled garden and courtyard are lit atmospherically in the evening and provide a natural extension of the party after dark.
Food & Drink
Every menu at Lyde Court is discussed with you personally and built around your celebration. There is no fixed package — a Silver anniversary dinner for forty people might have different needs to a Golden anniversary afternoon tea for twenty, and we approach both differently. All food is prepared in-house by our kitchen team using locally sourced Herefordshire ingredients.
Options range from formal sit-down dinners to relaxed sharing feasts, afternoon teas, hog roasts and outdoor barbecues. For summer anniversaries, our outdoor pizza shed is a popular and memorable alternative to a conventional buffet.
We are a free house, meaning a genuine selection of local ales, Herefordshire ciders, wines and spirits at prices that will not surprise your guests. The bar runs until 2am.
Staying the Night
One of the strongest arguments for Lyde Court over a town-centre venue is on-site accommodation. For anniversary celebrations — particularly those gathering family from across the country — being able to stay the night changes the feel of the entire event.
The Oast House sleeps guests in a mix of family rooms and dormitories, with a total on-site capacity of 66 guests across all accommodation. The Bridal Suite and three further VIP en-suite double rooms are available for the couple being celebrated or key family members. Camping pitches and caravan hook-ups are also available for those travelling by campervan.
