Funeral Reception Venue in Herefordshire
Lyde Court is a private countryside venue two miles from Hereford city centre. We host funeral receptions and wakes throughout the year and are accustomed to making arrangements at short notice. The venue is available exclusively on the day of your event — no other gatherings alongside you.
We understand that organising a reception is something most people do only once, and often while managing a great deal at the same time. Our aim is to make your time with us as straightforward and undisturbing as possible. Please call us to discuss what you need, and we will guide you from there.

Catering
Our catering team provides a range of menus. All dishes are prepared in-house. We can accommodate dietary requirements — please let us know when you contact us.
If you have a specific menu in mind — or if the person you are remembering had particular preferences you would like reflected in the food — we are happy to discuss this.
Guest numbers
The barn seats up to 250 guests for a formal or seated gathering. For more informal receptions where guests stand and move freely, the venue holds more. If you are uncertain about numbers — which is common at this stage of planning — please call us and we can talk it through.
Accessibility
Accessible parking bays are available close to the main entrance on the north wall of the barn. A step-free entrance is available at the back of the barn on the same wall. The barn and outdoor areas are level throughout. Please mention any specific accessibility requirements when you contact us.
Parking
There is ample free on-site parking for all guests. Guests may leave vehicles overnight if needed.
Short notice
We understand that arrangements often need to be made quickly. Please call us with your date and approximate numbers and we will do our best to help, even at short notice.
The Setting
Lyde Court is a 17th-century stone barn on the Duchy of Cornwall Estate, set in a private valley in the Herefordshire countryside. It is reached by a single lane from the main road, which gives it a degree of quiet and separation from the surrounding area.
The barn is L-shaped, which means there is naturally a main gathering space and a quieter end — useful when guests want to sit apart from the main group, or when older guests need a calmer setting. The outdoor courtyard and gardens are available if guests want to step outside.
The barn is lit by candles and natural light. It is not a function room. Most families who hold receptions here tell us the setting feels more personal and less institutional than they expected.
Location and Nearby Services
Lyde Court is at Lower Lyde, Hereford, HR1 3AE — two miles from Hereford city centre and a short drive from Hereford Crematorium on Westfaling Street. We are also convenient for families gathering after services at Hereford Cathedral, St Peter’s and churches across the HR1–HR4 postcode area.
We are well-placed for guests travelling from across Herefordshire, Worcestershire, the Welsh Borders and beyond. Free parking means guests do not need to worry about transport logistics.
Staying the Night
If family members are travelling from further away, on-site accommodation is available at Lyde Court. This can be a practical comfort — allowing people to gather without worrying about travel at the end of a difficult day.
The Oast House and a number of en-suite rooms accommodate guests within the grounds. Please ask when you contact us about availability for your date.
Questions We Are Often Asked
Yes, in most cases. Please call us as soon as you know the date you need, and we will confirm availability immediately. We understand that the timing of a funeral cannot always be planned far in advance.
Exclusive use of the barn, full Christmas decoration, a three-course dinner with bar service until 2am, in-house DJ and PA system, and free parking. Additional items such as specific entertainment, upgraded drinks packages or on-site accommodation are priced separately.
We do offer exclusivity. On the day of your reception, the barn and grounds can be reserved exclusively for your gathering.
