LYDE COURT CAFE

A barn café in the heart of Herefordshire

Lyde Court Café sits inside a 17th-century beamed barn on the Duchy of Cornwall Estate, two miles north of Hereford city centre. It’s a place people come to on purpose — for James Gourmet coffee, a relaxed lunch, live music, open gardens to wander, and a setting that doesn’t look like anywhere else near Hereford.

The barn is candlelit throughout. Sofas, long tables, exposed timber and stone walls. Outside, the open gardens and surrounding Herefordshire countryside unfold into footpaths, wildflower meadows and rolling views. Walkers, cyclists, motorcyclists and families arrive from the footpaths and country lanes. Dogs are always welcome — inside and out.

Shortlisted for New Tourism Business of the Year at the Herefordshire Tourism Awards 2025.

WALKS & NATURE

Walks, gardens and open space

Lyde Court is set within the open countryside of the Duchy of Cornwall Estate, just two miles from Hereford, with countryside footpaths starting directly from the venue. Surrounded by wildflower meadows, woodland, open fields, and views towards the Malvern Hills, it’s an ideal spot for walking in Herefordshire.

Printable walking maps are available online and at the bar, and dogs are welcome throughout the walks and café grounds. After your walk, relax in the rustic barn café or outdoor seating areas with coffee, food, and drinks.

  • 1-mile circular walk — starts at the venue. Gentle, dog-friendly, with meadow and woodland views.
  • Extended countryside routes — connect to the wider Herefordshire footpath network from the estate.

  • Open gardens — the grounds at Lyde Court are open to wander, including the Potager kitchen garden and orchard.

  • Views across to the Malvern Hills — visible from the outdoor seating and from the higher points of the estate walks.

  • Regular stop for walkers, cyclists & motorcyclists — the café is an easy destination from Hereford and the surrounding villages.

  • Roam & Roast Sundays — combine a circular walk with a Sunday carvery. A popular way to spend the day.
WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL

A 17th Century barn

WEEKLY LIVE MUSIC
Acoustic sets, folk performances, guitars and violins — every week. Old-world singers and world music in a candlelit barn. Check our social media page for the current schedule.
CANDLELIT BARN
The same candlelit atmosphere the barn is known for as a wedding venue — arrow-slit windows, elm beams, sofas and stone walls.
OPEN GARDENS
The Lyde Court grounds are open to visitors — the Potager kitchen garden, orchard and open fields. Settle on the outdoor seating with a coffee, or take a wander before or after lunch.
OUTDOOR SEATING & VIEWS
Picnic benches in the courtyard and across the grounds, looking out across the Herefordshire countryside toward the Malvern Hills. Covered seating available for variable weather.
DOGS & FAMILIES

Dogs and Families welcome

Lyde Court is surrounded by footpaths and open countryside — arriving from a walk, with a dog, in muddy boots, is exactly what the café is set up for. Dogs are welcome inside the barn and throughout the grounds, with water bowls, outdoor shade and puppuccinos available on request.

Families are equally at home here. There’s a dedicated kids menu, highchairs throughout, and enough space — indoors and out — that children can move around without anyone minding. A regular favourite for families looking for things to do near Hereford at the weekend.
