About the venue

About Lyde Court Wedding Venue

Lyde Court is a characterful barn wedding venue in the Herefordshire countryside, set just outside Hereford and surrounded by gardens, courtyards and open grounds. It feels peaceful and rural, yet remains practical for guests travelling from across Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Shropshire, the West Midlands, Bristol, South Wales, the Cotswolds and London.

The real beauty of Lyde Court is the way a wedding day can flow naturally through the venue. You can get ready on site, marry indoors or outside, enjoy drinks in the gardens, settle into your wedding breakfast in the barn, dance late into the night and let many of your guests stay over without the day ever feeling split between locations.

For couples looking for a countryside wedding venue with accommodation, atmosphere and the freedom to celebrate properly, Lyde Court offers a warm, flexible setting that feels personal rather than formulaic.

Get Ready in Our White Room

The start of your wedding day should feel calm, exciting and unhurried.

At Lyde Court, bridal preparations can begin on site, giving you time to settle into the venue before the ceremony and enjoy the morning without travelling between locations. The White Room offers a bright, welcoming space for hair, make-up and those quieter moments before the day begins, while the Bridal Suite gives you a private retreat for the night of your wedding.

Having your bridal prep at the venue also creates a smoother flow for timings and photography. There is time for detail shots, finishing touches, final toasts and that wonderful sense of anticipation before you walk to your ceremony.

Ceremonies and Locations

Lyde Court offers a choice of ceremony locations so you can shape the setting around the season, your guest numbers and the atmosphere you want to create.

Some couples choose the barn for its warmth, texture and candlelit character. Others are drawn to the gardens and lawns for a more open-air countryside ceremony. With several outdoor ceremony and drinks reception areas, together with indoor options should the weather change, the venue gives you flexibility without losing the natural flow of the day.

Whether you are planning something intimate, relaxed and informal or a larger celebration with a full guest list, Lyde Court gives you a setting that feels both beautiful and easy to make your own.

After the ceremony

Drinks Reception

After the ceremony, your drinks reception becomes the moment everyone relaxes into the day.

At Lyde Court, drinks receptions can be held in the gardens, lawns, courtyard or indoor spaces, depending on the weather and the feel you want to create. Guests can move easily from ceremony to photographs, canapés and drinks without the day feeling broken up.

This part of the celebration works beautifully at Lyde Court because there is space to mingle, to let children run about, to take photographs in the grounds and to enjoy the countryside setting before everyone gathers again for the wedding breakfast.

Wedding Breakfast

Your wedding breakfast is one of the biggest moments of the day, and at Lyde Court it can be shaped around the style of celebration you want.

Some couples choose a classic seated meal, while others prefer a more relaxed wedding feast, a carvery, a barbecue, vintage afternoon tea or a menu tailored through our trusted catering partners. The aim is always the same: generous, memorable food that feels right for your day and your guests.

Whether you are picturing a traditional wedding breakfast in Herefordshire or something a little more informal, we will help you shape the food around your guest numbers, timings and atmosphere.

Evening Celebrations

As the formal part of the day gives way to the evening, Lyde Court comes into its own.

The barn creates a warm and atmospheric setting for your evening celebration, with space for DJs, live bands, cake cutting, your first dance and a full dancefloor that does not have to wind down too early. This is one of the clearest ways Lyde Court stands apart from many other wedding venues: there is no curfew, and our bar licence runs until 2am.

Whether you want a live band, a DJ, a party around the courtyard or a packed dancefloor until the early hours, you have the freedom to celebrate properly and let the evening build naturally.

Late Night Food

Late-night food is one of the details guests always remember, and at Lyde Court it can feel like part of the party rather than an afterthought.

Our evening food options include crowd-pleasing choices such as chip butties, hot dogs, bacon baps, fish finger rolls, chicken goujons and chips, falafels with pittas, beer-battered fish and chips, burgers, hog roast, classic pizzas, homemade curry and our luxury wood-fired pizza shed for larger celebrations.

It is the kind of food that keeps the evening going: generous, comforting and perfect for guests drifting back from the dancefloor looking for something delicious before the night carries on.

Why couples choose us

Why Couples Choose Lyde Court

No curfew. No time limits.

Our bar licence runs until 2am and we have no curfew on when the party ends. The barn, the courtyard and the walled garden are yours for the day — and the night.

Everything included — no hidden extras

The barn comes with its own PA system, stage lighting, candles for every window and table, and mismatched vintage furniture. Most venues charge separately for these. We do not.

Locally sourced food at pub prices

We are a free house, which means a wide selection of local ales, Herefordshire ciders, wines and spirits at prices that will not shock your guests. Our menus are built around local suppliers and designed around your budget.

Neutral interiors that work with any colour palette

Stone walls and natural timber do not clash with anything. You bring the flowers, the ribbons, the centrepieces — Lyde Court provides a canvas, not a competition.

On-site accommodation for up to 66 guests

The Oast House sleeps up to 58 guests in a mix of family rooms and dormitories. Add the Bridal Suite, three VIP en-suite doubles, plus camping and caravans, and many of your guests can stay the night.

A morning-after wedding breakfast

We can extend your wedding into the following day with a full English breakfast in the barn for your stay-over guests. It is one of our most popular additions — and one most couples wish they had known about sooner.

Frequently Asked Questions

Wedding FAQs

Answers to common questions about weddings, ceremonies, catering, accommodation and planning your day at Lyde Court.

Venue Questions

Is your venue easy to find?

Our idyllic rustic barn is nestled in the rural Herefordshire countryside, yet it is just a short two-mile drive from Hereford city centre. For a map and directions please click here.

Is your venue licensed to carry out Civil Weddings?

Yes, we are licensed to hold civil ceremony weddings, both inside and also in the grounds outside.

If you hold a licence for Civil Ceremonies, what authority do you come under and what are the contact details for the registrar?

We come under Herefordshire Council who can be reached on 01432 383261 or by email: registrars@herefordshire.gov.uk

How many people can you accommodate for the Ceremony?

In the 17th century rustic barn, we can hold 300 seated guests, but there is flexibility if we use some of our outdoor areas as well. Please note that most of our weddings have around 50 – 60 daytime guests.

How many car parking spaces are available?

We have ample onsite free parking for all of your guests. Cars can also be left overnight but will need to be moved by 11am the next day.

Do you allow confetti to be thrown at the venue?

Yes, please use natural or biodegradable confetti and this will help to keep the lawns and gardens looking splendid and save the environment.

Do you allow candles to be lit in the reception room?

Yes and we highly recommend them. Candles create a lovely ambience in the building and can stay lit for the entire event. Candles are included in your wedding hire and we have an abundance of them to beautifully light up the arrow slits and windowsills in the beautiful barn. Lyde Court barn looks very romantic by candlelight.

Do you allow professional fireworks at your venue?

No, we have a local Dairy Farm and many of the village residents have horses and other animals. The noise of fireworks is just too much. However, we love sparklers and of course we have the firepits.

Do you have landing permission should we want a helicopter to whisk us away after our day?

Yes, you can safely land a helicopter at the venue and it makes for an epic entrance or departure to your honeymoon.

Do you offer the option of a marquee?

We do not offer a marquee as it is not needed; we have vast areas of indoor covered space in addition to the main barn. We do offer summer festival-style weddings where a marquee can be used, please get in touch for more information.

Are there separate rooms provided for the wedding, reception, meal, evening reception etc.

As the Great Barn is L shaped, it divides nicely into two sections, with room to extend upstairs in the barn. There are also the options of other barn buildings if required.

Is there a room provided for the use of bride and groom for the day?

Yes, there is a bridal suite available the night of the wedding which is available from 12 noon. There is also The White Room in the main house, which is available to you and your guests at no extra cost from 8am in the morning. The White Room has incredible bright and airy lighting, which makes for fantastic photography lighting.

Is there a dressing room that the bride and bridesmaids can use prior to the ceremony?

Yes, there is, without additional charge. Either the ladies powder room in the dormitories or The White Room in the main house depending on your preference.

When can we have access to begin setting up the room in terms of decorating it?

You can have access to the barn from 11am the day of the wedding or earlier by arrangement in most cases. If there is no function the day before then you can do any set up the day before.

Does the DJ/Band have to set up their equipment beforehand?

We would always recommend setting up beforehand to minimise disruption but setting up during the course of the evening is possible.

Is there an area that could be used as a crèche if needed?

I’m afraid we have no crèche services available but we are happy for external children’s entertainers to come in.

Is there a quieter area for older guests to get away from the noise of a band/DJ?

Yes, there are a few upstairs mezzanine areas at varying distances from the stage which are perfect for those that appreciate a slightly quieter environment. There is also a ground floor comfortable soft seating area at the opposite end of the barn from the music.

If rooms are available for overnight accommodation, how many?

There is one en-suite bridal suite. There are a further three VIP double rooms with en-suite bathrooms. The Oast House accommodation sleeps up to 58 of your guests in a mixture of family rooms and dormitories. Camping, touring caravans and camper vans are also an option. Campers and caravan guests pay per person which includes breakfast and full use of the facilities.

Do you have a room where you are able to store wedding presents until you are able to collect them, and are you insured for any loss or damage to these presents?

We are happy to undertake storage for these items, but we cannot offer insurance to cover them.
